MOBBERLEY, Cheshire, England

A township and parish in Bucklow Hundred (SJ 7980).

Includes the hamlets of Baguley Green, Barnes Brow, Burleyhurst, Gorsey Brow, Knolls Green, Newton, Paddockhill (part), Saltersley, Tipping Brow and Woodend.

The population was 993 in 1801, 1275 in 1851, 1353 in 1901 and 1913 in 1951.

CHURCHES AND CHAPELS

Mobberley, St. Wilfrid (C of E). An ancient parish, comprising the township of Mobberley. Registers of baptisms 1578-1898, marriages 1578-1933 and burials 1578-1838 are at the CRO.

Ashley, St. Elizabeth (Church of England).

Mobberley, Friends' Meeting House (Quakers). Burial registers 1655-1742 are at the CRO.

Mobberley, Methodist Church (Wesleyan), Faulkner Lane. Founded 1836, built 1882.

Knolls Green, United Reform Church (Independent/Congregational), Pepper Street. Built 1783 as a Methodist Chapel (Wesleyan), taken over by Independents in 1803, closed 1961.
